Miss TIP

History

Miss TiP was a Quadfest beauty pageant conducted after the activities. This was just like Miss America or Miss North Carolina, however, with a unique TiP twist. It began in the 80s as your average beauty pageant, complete with traditional dorm skits and the like. Each dorm would nominate a couple - a girl and her male escort - and they'd dress up, parade down the Baldwin steps, answer a few questions, and then they'd have a cute, chaste kiss.

In the early 90s, however, on Duke East, the Bassett fourth years decided that cute was not the way to go, so that year for the pageant, they cross-dressed. From then on, Miss TiP wasn't a beauty pageant - it was a farce to see who could cross-dress best. The Miss TiP pageant had been corrupted.

Miss TIP happened at Term I, 1997, Term II, 1998, and both terms 1999. However, in Term II 1999, things took a turn for the scandalous, and this was the last occurrance of Miss TIP, when Ben Abbotts and Geoff Geis dressed up as lesbian dominatrices, and single-handedly ended the Miss TiP pageant. As soon as they appeared on the Baldwin steps, all the TiPsters knew that something was wrong. We're talking Rocky Horror Picture Show here - fishnets, leashes and heeled boots. One of them was even on a dog leash (Likely, it was Geoff Geis). To this day, no one knows how they managed to smuggle these items in, but there they were, and while they had their traditional kiss upon winning, the following events were not so chaste.

According to the RCs, things went horizontal, and a hand or two may have found its way underneath clothing before the RCs managed to pull them apart. Needless to say, after that, the Miss TiP pageant was nixed for the longest time on Duke East. Of course, there were TIP sponsors and officials in the crowd who did not like this, and so lip sync became the full-time replacement. The dorm skits became a full-time Quadfest event in 2001.

Duke East Term I had a Quadfest activity for guys called Miss TIP, but it wasn't quite the same. During the Doctor, Doctor skit that year, On of the dead q/a 's was "As dead as the true Miss TIP competition? / Yes, as dead as the true Miss TIP competition."

2010 Miss TIP

2010 Duke East Term 2 had a Quadfest activity for guys called Miss TIP. It was the funniest Quadfest activity, according to mostly ALL of the Tipsters there. "Samantha" Callahan won, winning points for Alspaugh.

Skits were attempted at Davidson Term 1 2005, but failed due to lack of student participation and staff leadership.
